Production of Propanediols through In Situ Glycerol Hydrogenolysis via Aqueous Phase Reforming: A Review

Production of 1,2-propanediol and 1,3-propanediol are identified as methods to reduce glycerol oversupply. Hence, hydrogenolysis is a thermochemical conversion substitute; however, it requires an expensive, high-pressure pure hydrogen supply. Studies have been performed on other potential processes whereby aqueous phase reforming has excellent substitute for the process due its low temperature requirement high H2 yields, factors which permit in-situ no external this manuscript emphasizes delving into possibilities concept produce without “breaking bank” with expenses. Various heterogenous catalysts (APR) were identified, combination noble metal, support, dopant good amount Brønsted acid sites key ensure yield 1,3-propanediol.
